Hope you didn’t miss me too much — this week I’m dropping 2 newsletters. One with my usual LA BS.… and another one covering my trip to New York.
Bites
Kumquat opened its bakery specializing in croissants, Fondry next to Queen St. in HLP. They serve 13 different kinds of croissants from pain au chocolat to kouign amann. Be ready to brave a long line early in the morning — they’ve sold out before 10:30am everyday.
“Fondry isn’t the only project Kim and Sohn have been developing. At the end of May, the partners will be moving into new headquarters in Cypress Park which will also be a roastery and cafe. The roastery will be open for public tours once they’re settled in.” — more on Eater
Ggiata is opening it’s 4th LA location in HLP, on York in the previous A Bloc space.
New Dodger’s food has landed. 🧢🍗
Foxtrot closed its 33 stores abruptly leaving 1,000+ employees, and their vendors high and dry. Snaxshot broke the story. Here is Foxtrot’s IG announcement - comments off obviously.
Baroo quietly launched their vegetarian / vegan tasting menus.
I wonder if restaurants would consider pesca-vegan menus. Fish is okay, but no dairy? Maybe I’m the only one…
Prominent Plant-based restaurant Sage, is starting to serve… MEAT. Vegans are upset. 🥩
Pijja Palace’s Hotly Anticipated Follow-Up Is Right Next Door — Eater
Schezwan Club will serve Indian Chinese cuisine through the lens of restaurateur Avish Naran. ‘I like Singapore-style chile crab — I think that’s gonna go well here. You might see some roti canai action.”
Pierce is a snack. But we already knew that.
Javier sent me this can opener by Los Peperetes and I can’t stop thinking about it. Here it is in use. Come on shoppy shops, merch this next to the tinned fish.
Yuzu Co. is dropping a powder? Making me nostalgic for instant lemonade…
They also dropped new partnerships with In Season Juice + Café Panna, Ice Cream in NY
I thought Burger King’s 70th Anniversary print ads were really clever—Ashwinn breaks them down on IG.
Spicy drinks have arrived at Starbucks (Snaxshot called this)
I want one of these Garibaldina Society Vests (and I haven’t even been yet.)
Plastic Squeeze Bottles are finally getting the eye squint.
Some brands are refusing to put their olive oil in plastic bottles due to concerns about preserving the health benefits of the product.
“Olive oil should never be packaged in plastic. If customers want the experience of a squeeze bottle, she recommends decanting it into a squeeze bottle that can be used for a week or two at a time, versus buying it that way. “[Chefs] typically use a squeeze bottle in the back. But they’re refilling the bottle every day from a large tin. It’s not sitting for six to 12 months in a bottle.” — To Squeeze or Not to Squeeze
What started as a housewarming gift for her sons, is now Pamela Anderson’s lifestyle cookbook for everyone called, I love You. She says it’s ‘nothing fancy, just updated, plant-based family recipes; and entertaining with a humble kind of joy.’ cute!!
Chris Evans went to Langer’s and the this is what he wore.

Collabs —
Fish Wife x Hello Adrienne CUTEEE!
Colbo x Courage x Maru — This pop-up at Maru last weekend was kind of my ideal event. Onigiri, Psychic Wines, ofc coffee, vintage by my girl Aisha, of Less is More… bagel bags? Really sad to have missed it. Hoping some of the collab merch will end up online…
Graza x Meta Haiku made a soap. It’s sudsy.
Vitra @ Eightfold Coffee — soon…
818 Tequila x Chamberlain Coffee: Close but no cigar from me.
You’d think with all these teases they’d be selling a canned espresso martini. But no. They’re kind of selling everything but that. A t-shirt, glassware, a martini kit (with a link to purchase 818 from go puff). Cold brew inspired by the flavors of 818… whatever that means? For such an iconic celebrity collab, I think they could have taken this one step further and just made the drink!
Malin + Goetz x Princestreet Pizza
We know beauty loves a food activation, but Skincare / Fragrance couldn’t be more opposite than a greasy slice of pizza… ha! Unless you’re one of the select few interested in framing pizza boxes CPK style, after you take your picture for the gram, it’s just going to end up in the trash. Right?
Monica and I are dying to know the price of this machine. $25k? HMU with intel. [Update: she’s sitting pretty just under $13k]
🍅 Happy to report I enjoyed my tomato of the szn from last weekend’s Bucatini x For Love & Lemon’s Market (thanks to Danielle’s special delivery)
Catch me in your inbox again later this week… in the meantime, I’ll be here.
I’m going to start calling it “decanting” every time I pour something into a new bottle. Decanting my soap.
